Lagar de Bezana

History

Our history starts in the 1990’s, when the entrepreneur Ricardo Bezanilla, owner of a radio station in Santiago, wanted to produce his own wine.
He chose an area in the upper part of the Cachapoal Valley, at the feet of the Andes Mountains, where he grubbed up an apple orchard and planted Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. After a few years he was forced to replace Merlot with other varieties, as the stony soils didn’t support the variety well enough. Little by littlw he started experimenting with other varieties, such as Petit Verdot, Carmenère, Malbec, Grenache and Mourvèdre, to complement the original Cabernet-Sauvignon and Syrah.
We have learned a lot throughout the years, and from modest beginnings, Lagar de Bezana is now widely sold in Chile and exported to more than ten countries.
Nowadays, the family of Ricardo Bezanilla continue to grow and expand his important legacy.

Lagar de Bezana

Our Vision

We think the climate and soil of the Alto Cachapoal are ideally suited for high quality viticulture. These conditions allow us to fully express all the color, richness and freshness of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes. Since these conditions are not without difficulties, attention to detail is essential, and production can only be done on a relatively small scale. We aim to preserve and express the quality of our fruit in every glass of wine, and to become recognized by the unique depth, elegance and concentration of our wines.

Why cult wine?

At Lagar de Bezana we live the culture of wine, literally, as the word culture derives from the cultivation of the soil. It is this soil and land that determines the wines we make and the way we live. We all believe that winemaking is a form of art. An art that depends not only on cellar practices, but mostly on the relationship between grapevine, climate, soil and viticulture. We believe the upper (Alto) Cachapoal Valley has unique conditions to produce wines of character and distinction, and we always try to express the terroir through the style and elegance of our wines.
